HUNGER SUNDAY
Church of Epiphany's Hunger Sunday: An Act of Compassion
On the last Sunday of the month, at the end of the 11am Mass, a spirit of compassion ripples through the hearts of our parishioners and guests as they are invited to respond immediately to the call of Jesus to feed the hungry with food for body and for the soul. Immediately after the Mass, all are invited to prepare wholesome sandwich lunches and other nourishing items— fruits, cookies, water, and other treats. These packages are tangible extensions of our love for our fellow human beings.
After preparing the meals, all the participants fan out into the neighborhood, each armed with a bundle of these meticulously-prepared meals. As they distribute these humble lunches to our homeless brothers and sisters, they bring more than just sustenance. Pausing to visit and engage in heartfelt conversations with those in need - no person is overlooked or dismissed. In these moments of connection, our homeless sisters and brothers are accorded the dignity and respect that every human being deserves, and we are all graced and marked in meeting them in their need.
