Pocket Prayer Shawls

At Epiphany Church, we have a beautiful and heartwarming initiative known as the Pocket Prayer Shawl Ministry. This ministry embraces the power of a physical prayer shawl, thoughtfully crafted and small enough to fit right into the pockets of those who carry it. The purpose behind this ministry is clear - spreading comfort, solace, and faith to those who need it most.

The passion and dedication of the volunteers involved in the Pocket Prayer Shawl Ministry are truly inspiring. It all begins with a group of talented knitters and crocheters from within the congregation, who gather regularly to create these miniature masterpieces. Each shawl is infused with love, hope, and countless prayers, making every stitch a symbol of compassion and support.

As the shawls are finished, they are blessed by one of our priests and then a small note or an uplifting Bible verse is attached, personal touches that further emphasize the intentions behind this loving gift. Who might receive a pocket prayer shawl? Anyone who needs the comfort of a handmade item, perhaps someone who has had a recent loss or who is going through an illness. that is offered to parishioners and visitors. during a special ceremony at Epiphany Church. This ritual adds an additional layer of grace and spirituality to the already powerful purpose of these pocket-sized shawls. The blessings serve as a reminder to those who receive them, that they are never alone in their struggles and that the faith community stands beside them.

Once blessed, the shawls are lovingly placed into handmade pouches by the ministry volunteers. These pouches often include a small note or an uplifting Bible verse, personal touches that further emphasize the intentions behind this gift that is offered to parishioners and visitors—-anyone who needs the comfort of a handmade item—perhaps someone who has had a recent loss or who is experiencing an illness.
