Good Friday, a solemn day for Catholics, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is marked by fasting, prayer, and reflection on his sacrifice, with no Mass celebrated, but rather a liturgy of the Word (the Passion of Jesus Christ), with veneration of the cross, and communion from hosts consecrated the night before on Holy Thursday. Despite the tragic nature of the event, it's called "Good" Friday because of the ultimate good that came from it – the redemption of humanity through Jesus' sacrifice.
